‘We Are Not Increasing Fees, Bring Your Own Groceries’
Churchhill school authorities are reported to have barred boarding school pupils, who brought brands’s not specified on the school’s grocery list, from attending school lessons yesterday.
The H-Metro reports that school headmaster Patson Magwanda said that the school had resolved not to increase the boarding fees and levies but instead students bring groceries to cushion the school from the inflation bedeviling the country.
Speaking to the publication, Magwanda confirmed the case and justified the school’s hostile stance claiming that it is parents who had opted for groceries instead of paying money thus they had to comply with the school’s demands.
”Parents agreed to buy groceries and we urged them to buy specific branes so that it will be easy to prepare meals.
”We will not tolerate any other brands except the one we agreed on and that is why we are rejected some of the groceries brought by the children,” said Mugwanda.
One of the parents who spoke to the publication expressed that this was one of the school’s schemes to fleece parents of their money which he claimed was being misused.
”School headmaster and his staff are after money and the list of groceries with specific brands ins to force us o give them money they then misuse.
”Our children have been barred from attending lessons as if the food is consumed in one day and those lessons will not be repeated after bringing the said brands,” said the parent.
Among groceries listed in a newsletter addressed to parents and guardians, were 10kgs Probrand premium rice, 10kgs mealie meal Pearlenta, 6kgs Fatties and monies spaghetti, 4kg brown sugar, 2litres pure drop cooking oil, 4 litres Mazoe, 12 tins of Cashel Valley backed beans, a kilogram of Kellogs corn flakes, a litre of Mama’s peanut butter, 3 by 325l of Marmalade Mama’s jam and a litre Heydo dishwasher.
